How often do hearing aids need to be replaced?
Like all devices, hearing aids need to be replaced from time to time. Some people enjoy upgrading as soon as new technologies become available, others prefer to wear the aids they are familiar with for as long as possible.
The right time to upgrade your hearing solutions is a personal choice, some things to consider are:
New feature availability
Research teams are always working to provide a better listening experience, increase understanding in background noise and improve connectivity, so if you have been wearing hearing aids for a few years, there could be newer developments available.
Changes to health
Sometimes other health conditions (like arthritis or macular degeneration) can impact on hearing aid use and changing to lower maintenance options like rechargeable hearing aids with automatic features (instead of battery operated with manual controls) is more beneficial.
Changes to hearing ability
Hearing levels can change over time. If you aren’t hearing as well as you previously did with your hearing aids, it’s important to have your hearing aids checked. They may just need a repair or adjustment, but if your hearing has changed and your current hearing aids are no longer able to meet your needs, your Audiologist can advise you on new technology options.
Age of the device
Most manufacturers estimate average hearing aid lifespan to be between three and seven years depending on the style, build quality, maintenance and level of use.
All Kingsbridge Hearing Care hearing aids come with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty.
Lifestyle changes
Over time, lifestyles may change, and communication needs can evolve. The hearing aids that were best suited to you a few years ago may not be the best solution now, so it’s always a good idea to find out about new technologies and options when you are visiting your Audiologist.
If you are considering new hearing solutions, your Audiologist should carry out a new hearing aid assessment to ensure any new devices meet your up-to-date hearing and lifestyle requirements. Check out our blog on how to get the most from your hearing assessment appointment here.
